Xenadrine EFX Information

Other Names: Xenadrine, Xenadrine EFX, Xenadrine-RFA-1

Xenadrine EFX is a thermogenic weight loss and bodybuilding drug.

Xenadrine EFX is an ephedrine-free fat-burner that, since it is ephedrine-free, doesn't have any of the side-effects that make ephedrine-based products problematic.

Xenadrine EFX contains a proprietary blend of ingredients, the Xenadrine Thermodyne Complex, that promotes thermogenesis or otherwise helps you to stay on your diet, including tyrosine, green tea extract, cocoa extract, yerba mate, di-methionine, ginger root, bitter orange, DMAE and grape seed extract. Xenadrine Efx also has vitamin B6, vitamin C, pantothenic acid and magnesium.

Like other synephrine/caffeine-based products on the market, Xenadrine Efx will induce thermogenesis (raise your body's temperature) and cause you to burn more calories. Other Xenadrine Efx results include: suppressing your appetite, preserving lean muscle mass, and increasing your energy levels. The tyrosine in the formulation increases these benefits by further curbing appetite and reducing fatigue and stress levels. DMAE increases attention span and focus, while ginger root helps to reduce the gastrointestinal upset that can sometimes occur with caffeine. Di-methionine assists in the breakdown of fats. Grape seed extract has health benefits, but does not help to burn body fat.

Xenadrine EFX Ingredients and Composition

Two capsules of Xenadrine Efx contain 1,415 mg of a proprietary Thermodyne complex, which contains:

Two Xenadrine EFX capsules also have 100 mg of vitamin C, 10 mg of vitamin B6, 12 mg of pantothenic acid and 10 mg of magnesium.

There may be additional undeclared Xenadrine EFX ingredients.

How Does Xenadrine EFX Work?

Xenadrine works by inducing thermogenesis, the 'speeding up' of the metabolism, and reducing the appetite, thus promoting weight-loss. The following provides a break-down on the action of individual Xenadrine EFX ingredients.

Citrus aurantium in Xenadrine EFX

Citrus aurantium is the botanical name for a fruit known as zhi shi in traditional Chinese medicine and as bitter orange or sour orange in other countries. The unripe fruit contains synephrine - a chemical that is structurally related to ephedrine - as well as octopamine and tyramine. Like ephedrine, synephrine has the ability to increase metabolic rate and lipolysis (fat breakdown). Synephrine is also a mild appetite suppressant and an energy enhancer. (The Chinese use it to stimulate the Qi, or energy force.) But unlike ephedrine, synephrine has much less impact on the central nervous system. This makes it easier to tolerate for people who are sensitive to ephedrine. The effects of synephrine are greatly increased when it is combined with caffeine. The amount of synephrine alkaloids in Xenadrine EFX is not indicated on the label.

Caffeine in Xenadrine EFX

The caffeine sources in Xenadrine EFX are green tea extract, cocoa extract and yerba mate. There is no difference in the caffeine of these three herbs - caffeine is caffeine. They do have some other differences, however.

Green Tea in Xenadrine EFX

Green tea contains potent antioxidant compounds called polyphenols. There are four primary polyphenols in green tea. While all four appear to have protective value, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) occurs in the greatest amounts and has the strongest benefits. EGCG is an antioxidant that is several times more potent than vitamin E. It also prolongs the life of norepinephrine, which triggers thermogenesis. As a result, EGCG keeps the thermogenic process going for a longer period of time, allowing Xenadrine EFX to boost your metabolic rate and facilitating fat loss.

Cocoa extract in Xenadrine EFX

Cocoa extract comes from the plant Theobroma cacao. It contains a relatively small amount of caffeine along with larger amounts of theobromine, the primary metabolite of caffeine. Other plant chemicals in cocoa include PEA (phenylethylamine) and tyramine. PEA has been shown to increase attention span, while tyramine (a breakdown product of tyrosine) has a chemical structure that is similar to epinephrine and norepinephrine. Everyone who has eaten chocolate knows that cocoa can have a stimulating effect when consumed in sufficient quantities. (Unfortunately, it also has a lot of calories - hardly what you need while dieting.) The amount of cocoa extract in Xenadrine EFX is not indicated.

Yerba mate in Xenadrine EFX

Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is a tree that grows in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The people of these countries have used it for centuries as a tonic and stimulant. The leaves of this plant contain caffeine as well as smaller amounts of theophylline and theobromine, two plant chemicals that also stimulate the central nervous system. Some reports indicate that yerba mate may have thermogenic properties in its own right, and this warrants its inclusion in the Xenadrine EFX formulation.

As far as fat burning is concerned, the primary active ingredient in green tea extract and yerba mate is caffeine. This plant chemical is rapidly absorbed by the body and remains in circulation for more than seven hours. Plasma concentrations reach a peak one hour after it is consumed. It is then slowly metabolized, with a half-life of four to six hours.

Caffeine has been shown to dramatically increase free fatty-acid levels, providing the body with a fuel source that it can use instead of the glycogen stored in your liver and muscles. In fact, one Xenadrine study found a 100% increase in plasma free fatty acids after the subjects took 330 mg of caffeine.

At the same time, caffeine has been shown to increase adrenaline levels. This "fight-or-flight" hormone increases alertness and boosts energy levels, helping you to go through your daily tasks with less food intake. Most people experience a reduced appetite when their adrenaline levels are high, usually because they are focused on more essential tasks. With these two mechanisms, it's easy to understand why caffeine in Xenadrine EFX is important for jump-starting your weight-loss efforts.

L-tyrosine in Xenadrine EFX

L-tyrosine is the amino acid tyrosine in free (unbound) form, while acetyl-L-tyrosine is the same amino acid tied to an acetyl molecule. Both are bioavailable forms of tyrosine, an amino acid that plays an important role in human metabolism. It is the precursor to stimulatory neurotransmitters such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine and some of the thyroid hormones. All of these neurotransmitters and hormones play important roles in maintaining your metabolic rate. Logically, if you have a greater supply of these precursors, you can nudge your metabolism up a bit, helping you to shed unwanted pounds. Several studies have also shown that tyrosine increases the benefits of caffeine/ephedrine products, in part by curbing appetite. Tyrosine appears to reduce stress and fatigue as well, putting you in a better state of mind and making it easier to stick to your diet and exercise program. The amount of L-tyrosine in Xenadrine EFX is not indicated on the product label.

Xenadrine Efx Results From Ginger root

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is indigenous to tropical Asia and is now cultivated in tropical areas throughout the world. The rhizome, which is technically an underground stem instead of a root, contains oleoresins that are rich in gingerols. These compounds have a variety of sedative effects. Ginger is traditionally used to calm the stomach and as a treatment for motion sickness. Since some individuals experience gastrointestinal upset with caffeine and other stimulatory chemicals, ginger should help to eliminate this occasional side effect. Ginger in Xenadrine EFX does not have any fat-burning properties.

Di-methionine in Xenadrine EFX

Methionine is an essential amino acid that assists in the breakdown of fats. For this reason, it is sometimes called a lipotropic. Methionine is a bioavailable source of methyl groups, which have a number of important roles in the body. This amino acid also contains sulfur, a mineral with antioxidant properties that is necessary for healthy skin, hair, tendons and ligaments. Methionine must be obtained from the diet, and is thus readily supplementable by Xenadrine EFX. It is the precursor for the amino acids cystine and cysteine. Methionine is one of the three amino acids the body uses to make creatine, an important energy molecule.

DMAE in Xenadrine EFX

DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) is a precursor to choline in the body. This can boost the level of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain. Unlike many nutrients, DMAE is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. This gives it the potential to enhance attention span and alertness. DMAE supplementation through Xenadrine EFX or another supplement has been shown to increase mental focus and energy levels, which ought to facilitate your adherence to your diet program.

Grape seed extract in Xenadrine EFX

Grape seed extract contains a number of flavonoids and other compounds with significant antioxidant properties. It has been found to be a stronger neutralizer of free radicals than even vitamins C and E. Since exercise (which is needed to help create a caloric deficit) results in greater numbers of free radicals, taking an antioxidant such as grape seed extract has health benefits. Some makers of grape seed extract claim that their "unique" product also has the ability to redirect fatty acids away from the adipose tissues storage so they can be metabolized, resulting in less body fat over time. However, no published scientific study into Xenadrine or another weight-loss drug has shown this to be true.

Xenadrine EFX Precautions and Contraindications

As with any thermogenic weight-loss drug, consult your doctor before staring to take it, especially if you have a history of health problems. Should you, at any time, experience general malaise or come to believe that your health is being jeopardized in any way, discontinue treatment immediatly, and contact your doctor.

Xenadrine EFX Side Effects

Most of the side effects that occur with fat burners are associated with products containing ephedrine - not synephrine. Since Xenadrine Efx is Cytodyne Technologies' ephedrine free product, it does not have the side effects normally associated with most fat burners. However, caffeine (one of Xenadrine EFX's ingredients) can have side effects on its own for sensitive individuals, but nowhere near the number caused by ephedrine. The Xenadrine EFX side effects included here are the most common reactions people experience from taking caffeine.

Xenadrine side effects:

Although you might assume these are Xenadrine EFX side effects specifically, these reactions are common to all fat burners that contain caffeine.

Because of its unique combination of power and safety, many experts now consider synephrine to be an even more effective thermogenic compound than ephedrine. However, Pharma-Help can neither confirm nor deny this claim. Xenadrine EFX uses a plentiful supply of synephrine. None of the other ingredients in Xenadrine EFX should produce a side effect in the recommended dosage.

Experiences, Testimonials and Reviews of Xenadrine EFX

Clinical studies have shown exceptional weight loss and fat control results achieved with Xenadrine. One study, had shown that the Xenadrine group achieve 759% more weight-loss than the placebo group in 6 weeks. The Xenadrine group also had much more increase in lean muscle mass than the placebo group. A positive note from these studies had shown the subjects did not experience any negative side effects.

Another study concluded that Xenadrine EFX increased metabolic rates by as much as 13.41%. Patients burned 5% more calories taking Ephedrine-free Xenadrine EFX compared to taking Ephedra-based Dexatrim Natural. They burned 4.9% more calories taking Ephedra-free Xenadrine EFX compared to taking Ephedra-based Metab-O-Lite.

These experiences, supported by many testimonials, seem to agree upon Xenadrine being an effective drug.

Xenadrine EFX Clinical Trials and Studies

Citrus aurantium

A study published in Current Therapeutic Research recently investigated the weight-loss benefits of a supplement containing Citrus aurantium, caffeine and St. John's wort. The researchers divided 23 overweight individuals into three groups. One was given the Citrus aurantium combination. Another group got a placebo, while the third group did not receive any supplement. All of the subjects followed the same exercise and diet routine for six weeks. By the end of the experiment, the Citrus aurantium group had lost 13% of their fat mass while increasing their basal metabolic rate by 3%. While the St. John's wort, an herbal antidepressant, may have reduced appetite to some extent (people tend to eat more when they are depressed), the researchers felt that the synephrine/caffeine part of the formulation was the primary reason for the benefits in fat loss and enhanced metabolism. No published studies have examined the benefits of Citrus aurantium on its own, or in the specific Xenadrine EFX formulation.

Caffeine

Scientific research shows that caffeine is not only a powerful thermogenic stimulator, but also works synergistically with ephedrine and synephrine. Studies show that caffeine increases the level of free fatty acids in your blood, thereby making fat a more abundant source of fuel.

One study found a 100% increase in plasma free fatty acids after taking 330 mg of caffeine. Studies also show that during aerobic exercise, caffeine can increase the rate of fat oxidation (fat burning) by as much as 50%. That means that if you spent 30 minutes doing moderately intense aerobic exercise and burned 500 calories, roughly half of those calories would come from fat oxidation. So by adding caffeine to your pre-workout supplement list, you could theoretically burn an extra 125 calories. Add that up over a period of weeks, months or years, and you'll understand why adding caffeine to Xenadrine EFX is important for jump-starting your weight-loss efforts.

However, scientists have discovered a more profound synergistic effect when caffeine is combined with ephedrine. Together, these two nutrients are much more beneficial than the combined effects when each is taken separately. Since synephrine is a chemical cousin to ephedrine, it may have a similar synergistic effect with caffeine. While Xenadrine Rfa 1 uses this combination, Xenadrine EFX does not.

A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that when green tea was taken instead of pure caffeine, there was a greater thermogenic effect. This six-week study compared the benefits of pure caffeine (50 mg), green tea extract (with 50 mg of caffeine and 90 mg of EGCG) and placebo. The pills were given three times per day. The green tea group experienced a significant 4% increase in thermogenesis and a 4.5% boost in overall energy expenditure. Green tea is combined with caffeine in Xenadrine EFX.

Cocoa extract contains some caffeine as well as other plant chemicals that act as stimulants, including theobromine. One four-day study with rats found that theobromine administration produced a very favorable reduction in fatty-acid levels in the blood, suggesting that the fat may have been metabolized for energy. Unfortunately, the rats had to consume 700 mg of theobromine per kg of body weight to get this effect. Given that theobromine only makes up about 2% of cocoa by weight, a human would need to eat pounds of chocolate to get this same effect. No studies have yet been published with humans taking more reasonable amounts of theobromine or cocoa extract.

Yerba mate contains caffeine as well as smaller amounts of the stimulants theophylline and theobromine. As such, it should give Xenadrine another effective source of caffeine, provided that enough of the plant extract is consumed. However, to date no research has been published on the efficacy of yerba mate as a fat burner.

L-tyrosine

Research suggests that supplementing with tyrosine may minimize the degradation of the neurotransmitters involved in the metabolic process while enhancing the thermogenic effects of the ECA stack. With more raw material available, the neurotransmitters controlling metabolism are produced at a higher level with beneficial results. The increases in alertness and energy level will also make it easier to stick to your Xenadrine EFX diet program.

Ginger root

Ginger has a long history of use as a treatment for motion sickness. In one double-blind, placebo-controlled study by Danish researchers, naval cadets unaccustomed to sailing in rough seas were given 1 gm of ginger root or placebo every hour for four hours. The ginger root reduced the tendency toward vomiting and cold sweating. Thermogenic formulations such as Xenadrine EFX only produce gastrointestinal distress in some sensitive individuals, so ginger should definitely be able to relieve these much milder symptoms. There are no studies showing that ginger by itself has fat-burning properties.

Di-methionine

Methionine is an amino acid that must be obtained from the diet, as the body cannot manufacture it. It assists in fat breakdown (lipolysis), although it has many other roles in the body. Methionine is included in fat-burner formulations because of its ability to support greater levels of fatty-acid oxidation. However, it has not been studied as a fat burner on its own, so it is not known how much methionine in Xenadrine EFX is needed to promote significant levels of fat loss.

DMAE

DMAE can enhance acetylcholine function in the central nervous system. The end result in more energy and alertness, potentially boosting your willpower as you cut your calories. While DMAE has been shown to increase mental functioning in many disease conditions (including Alzheimer's disease and attention deficit disorder), no one has yet studied its impact on fat loss as a separate supplement.

Grape seed extract

Grape seed extract is a powerful antioxidant with numerous health benefits. However, no published study has shown that it actually has the ability to redirect fatty acids away from the fat cells, as some products claim. Xenadrine pretty much uses it as a way to fight free radicals and keep you healthy.

How To Take Xenadrine EFX and Xenadrine EFX Dosage and Administration

Take 2 capsules before breakfast or morning exercise session and 2 more capsules before your afternoon meal. Do not take in the evening. Do not exceed 4 capsules per day. For best results, begin with half of the recommended dose (1 capsule two times per day) for the first week to assess your tolerance to the formulation.
