Tenuate is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity. Tenuate can also be obtained in its generic form, Diethylproprion.
How To Take Tenuate and Tenuate Dosage and Administration
Take on an empty stomach, once daily, 30-60 minutes before breakfast. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed because this drug can cause addiction. Also, if used for a longer period of time, do not suddenly stop this medication without first consulting your doctor. This medication is usually taken for 8 to 12 weeks.
Tenuate Side Effects
Side effects, that may diminish and dissapear during the course of the treatment, include restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, or dry mouth. If they continue or become bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Tenuate Precautions and Contraindications

Tenuate Drug Interactions
Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use, (prescription and nonprescription) especially if you take high blood pressure medicine or MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) or any other weight loss medicine. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may increase your heart rate or blood pressure such as decongestants or caffeine. Decongestants are commonly found in over-the-counter cough and cold medicine.
If You Miss a Dose of Tenuate
If you miss a dose, do not double the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosage as scheduled.
Storing Tenuate
Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
